Born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and moving to Australia in 2005, Rushan Hewawasam’s life has been one of passion, leadership, and constant reinvention. Raised in a family where both academic and professional excellence were highly valued, Rushan was greatly influenced by his father, an obstetrician-gynaecologist (OB/GYN) and academic, and his mother, a successful businesswoman. His mother’s entrepreneurial spirit and keen sense of business management, combined with her love for music, significantly shaped Rushan’s approach to leadership—blending creativity with operational precision.
From an early age, Rushan’s exposure to business and healthcare set the foundation for a career dedicated to improving operational and financial outcomes. Over time, he has become a leader in transforming healthcare operations, with a focus on enhancing efficiency and performance in General Practices across Australia.
Beyond healthcare, music has always been a cornerstone of Rushan’s life. As the founder of the Euphony Choir and the Musical Director of the Victorian Welsh Male Choir, he has led performances on prestigious stages worldwide, including performances for royalty. His experience in leading choirs mirrors his business leadership style—creating harmony and ensuring excellence through discipline and precision.
A Career Rooted in Operational and Financial Leadership
Rushan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, majoring in Accounting and Management, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. His early career, focused on accounting and operations management, showcased his ability to streamline complex business operations, reduce costs, and drive growth. His operational expertise has since been applied across industries, with a significant impact in the healthcare sector.
Since joining HealthVue as the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Rushan has brought his wealth of experience in strategic operations and financial management. His leadership has been pivotal in ensuring HealthVue’s continued success in helping General Practices across Australia to improve efficiency, increase profitability, and focus more on patient care.

Leading HealthVue’s Transformation
At HealthVue, Rushan has led the charge in developing and expanding key services. He spearheaded the rollout of Practice Maestro, a comprehensive virtual management service that ensures clinics can focus on patient care while their operations—from HR to accreditation—run seamlessly. This platform has transformed how General Practices manage their day-to-day operations, providing remote management solutions that enhance efficiency and reduce administrative burdens.
Rushan also played a key role in refining Expense Hero, HealthVue’s cost-reduction service, ensuring it delivers maximum savings without compromising quality. His work has been instrumental in helping clinics reduce operational expenses while improving overall service delivery.
In addition to his role at HealthVue, Rushan is an Accreditor with the Quality Practice Accreditation (QPA) and serves on the Advisory Board of Best Practice Software, where his insights into healthcare technology and operations provide invaluable guidance. His contributions extend to working with Primary Health Networks (PHNs) and other government bodies, where he has helped shape improvements in healthcare services on a national level.
